About Me

About Me

Dr. Abhinava Chatterjee received his Ph.D from Department of Mechanical Engineering of Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India in 2022, M. Tech from Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT (ISM Dhanbad), India in 2014, and B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from WBUT in 2012. After masters he has been completely interested in working in Academia and joined as an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering Department DIT University Dehradun, India and worked there for a semester upto Dec 2014. Thereafter he came into this interesting field of pursuing research.

Dr. Chatterjee works in the area of Tribology (friction, wear and lubrication of materials) and Biomechanics (Engineering behind human body activities) at multiple time and lengthscales with a focus to solve complex mechanical problems in conventional, advanced materials and biomaterials. He has also worked on macroscale tribology of Heavy Earth Moving Machinery and hydraulic leakage problems. In his doctoral research, he has worked on understanding the fundamental mechanisms of occurrence of ultralow friction and superior lubrication in human joints from a molecular perspective using atomistic level simulations. He takes a lot of interest in deeper investigation of complex research problems for example nature and bio-inspired mechanisms to solve design challenges from scratch and reveal interfacial interaction mechanics which might have implications for  engineering advanced solutions. Analysis of biomaterials at multiple scales lays the foundation of new material development and brings out insights of interesting unknown complex mechanisms which may have design implications.

His current research is fundamental and speculates to be collaborative for a transtition into application oriented which have broader impacts. This involves understanding length scale effects of contact problems, soft contacts, superlubricity, material behavior, mechanics, and improving implant design.

Research Interests:- Tribology, Nanomechanics, Biomaterials, Contact Mechanics, Machine Design, Lubrication, Mechanics of materials, Molecular Simulations.
